Polymer Teacher of the Month - November 2009
Katharine D. Owens

The Akron Global Polymer Academy is pleased to present Katharine (Kathie) D. Owens as its Polymer Teacher of the Month.
Kathie received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY and her Master of Education degree in Science Education from Texas A&M University. She received her Doctorate of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Kathie began her teaching career as a math and earth and space science teacher at Pascagoula Jr. High in Mississippi. After numerous teaching assignments in Mississippi, Kathie eventually accepted a teaching position at The University of Akron (UA). While serving as a Full Professor at UA, Kathie also was named Associate Director of Operations of the Akron Global Polymer Academy in 2008. Kathie’s enthusiasm for science, her positive attitude, her genuine care and concern for her students, and her never-ending supply of baked goods, will be fondly remembered by her staff, students, and friends at The University of Akron.
Kathie retired from UA in the fall of 2009 and moved with her husband, Clarence, to Tennessee to be near her grandchildren and family. We wish Kathie the best as she embarks on the next chapter of her life.
